About Hagit
I have spent a lot of my life with books.
Writing them, reading them, recommending them, and helping children find the one they didn’t know they wanted.
I grew up in Israel and now live in the Netherlands. I write in English and Hebrew. Most of what I read is middle grade fiction; I love stories that are funny, odd, and serious about what children feel without being solemn about it.
My first paid job was in a library when I was a teenager. Later, for about ten years, I helped run a community library: choosing books, recommending them, and organizing activities for children. I have also visited schools with my children’s books.
Before and alongside writing, I worked in engineering, software, and product roles. Perhaps that explains my interest in building a perfectly logical world and then letting a child ask why its logic makes no sense.
Writing history
From short stories to children’s books.
My short fiction has appeared in Hebrew literary and online publications, including Moznaim, Bananot, Ynet, and Zuta. I also wrote book reviews, articles, and stories for a local publication over several years. I studied creative writing at the University of Haifa and worked in a writing group led by Nurit Zarchi.
